From the announcement made last week that Royal Caribbean is to upgrade the liners Liberty of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas with facilities from its Oasis-class ships, Royal Caribbean International, the cruise operator, will be showing off even more improvements for cruisers with a whole new shore excursion package that spreads across fifty five ports in twenty two Mediterranean and European destinations, meaning guests can now design a cruise holiday that is tailored to their individual requirements. A well as this, the cruise-line has revealed more details of a brand new port it is building and is scheduled to open sometime in Jamaica in 2011.

Private Excursions, Easy Tours and Family Activities

With its recent successes in Russia, Royal Caribbean International is now allowing it’s guests the chance to arrangement their own private shore excursions to explore Mediterranean and European destinations from thirteen ports-of-call including Greece, Israel, Egypt, Finland, Italy and Sweden. Passengers who do not wish to be limited by a fixed itinerary can now have the cruise line arrange programs and allow access to a private bus for each tour that can provide for up to ten people and at the same time enjoying stress free sightseeing.

Royal Caribbean has also designed a selection of new half day shore excursions specifically designed for families and multi-generational groups. Some of these activities include a Pizza Making experience in Sorrento, Italy. Here visitors are given a city tour which is then followed by a professional pizza making class and lunch to enjoy their cooking, also a Sea Kayaking adventure in Dubrovnik, Croatia, to take in a different perspective of the beautiful city and its historic architecture.

The cruise line is also extending its offering of what it calls “Easy” tours for passengers with difficulty standing for large amounts of time or walking, as well as adding fourteen new programs meaning that there is now thirty three in total. Guests can explore the old town of Trogir or sample Sardinia’s finest wines or perhaps take in the views of the many artistic and historical landmarks in the area from the comfort of their own transport, which has been modified with lifts and access ramps where possible.

Royal Caribbean International is currently focussing on the European cruise market, with eight ships currently sailing in Europe this year. The cruise operator is set to further extend its presence in 2011, when it will have a record breaking eleven ships in and around Europe waters.

An Eastern Mediterranean Cruise is your one way ticket to what could be some of the most memorable trips to some wonderful countries like Greece, the Greek Islands, Croatia, Turkey and Italy. Many of the most popular cruises lines offer itineraries that operate in the eastern Mediterranean. They include Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, MSC, Princess and Silversea cruise lines. With new destinations being offered all the time from the major cruise lines new ports of call are constantly opening up meaning that there is always something new to see, even if you have cruised to these destinations before.

Its probably worthwhile mentioning that most of the eastern Mediterranean cruises usually start or end in Italy, most usually with the cities of Rome or Venice. Bearing this in mind, many people might like to extend their vacation by a few days at the end of the cruise so that they can spend some extra time exploring these places.

Most of the cruise lines can set up packages that involve hotels that can be all-inclusive if you so choose. Once you are staying put on land, you will then get a chance to enjoy the Gondola rides in Venice on the Venetian canals, or if you were to stay in Rome, make sure you visit the Colosseum as well as take a guided tour of the Vatican City.

If you are taking a eastern Mediterranean cruise, then you simply must make sure you visit the Greek islands, in particular the island of Rhodes is well worth a trip, especially because you will get the see the old Rhodes town with the splendidly massive gates that were built to defend the town from invaders. Some of the other Greek Islands that may be part of your European cruise itinerary are Patmos and Santorini. Cyprus and Crete are two nearby island ports of call they your cruise may take in.

Croatia is a common destination for many European cruises that are targeted to the eastern Mediterranean, Croatia’s main port of call is Dubrovnik. It has been completely restored from the damage caused by war in the early 1990s. Dubrovnik is a wonderful seaside town with stone houses, magnificent medieval architecture and a quaint Old Town. If you are travelling on a smaller and alternative ship you may stop in the towns of Trogir, Hvar and Korcula.+

Every European country has its own fascinations with differing cultures, histories and languages on offer. In fact the one thing that they all have in common is of course history. When you take a European cruise you can have the chance to visit a few of these interesting European destinations and it has to be said that a European cruise, especially a river cruise, can provide you with ample opportunity to explore this continent. If you are looking for a famous sea for a cruise then you will have to make sure that you include the Mediterranean Sea.

Not only an interesting experience, but purporting a veritable cocophany of sights, it hardly gets better than a trip to Europe. If you want to take it easy and relax, you most certainly will be able to achieve this, as the slower pace of living is what practically most European countries are about and as a consequence so you will be able to relax too. Of course cruising in itself is also relaxing, so how can you do anything else but enjoy yourself!

Indeed, the Western Mediterranean is one of the most famous cruise destinations, where passengers can take in the magnificence of France, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Spain, Malta and Greece, to name but a few. Why not try and visit between May and September so you might get the best possible weather and also, make sure your cruise takes you to the Greek Islands.

Europe provides for the most interesting vacation experience you might ever have, but if the sunny Mediterranean doesn’t particularly impress you, why not consider a cruise in the beauty of the Baltic? This is an very well known and popular destination for a European cruise.

The Baltic is very unique meaning that the countries you visit are also. St. Petersburg in Russia is probably one of the most exotic and well known destinations on the Baltic sea is most likely, where you can visit the world renowned Hermitage Museum, this museum houses some of the best artwork found anywhere in the world. Also why try Denmark a more Northern country. This is also a popular cruise destination and the City of Copenhagen in particular is very worthwhile visiting.

All in all, Europe is a cruise destination the has lots to offer, many many sights to see and finally something that everyone should try at least once for a vacation destination.

European Cruises Advisor provides a website resource where you can find informative and reliable articles about European cruises, whether you are interested in European Cruises for 2010, how to go about getting value for money discount cruises or just European cruises in general.

Given how well the European Cruise market has held up in 2009, even with the recent credit crunch, it probably well worth your while to start looking into cruises scheduled for the summer of 2010, that’s if you want to make sure that you get the date, cabins and ships of you choice before all the best bargains are snapped up.

If you’ve previously this summer, been cruising the Caribbean, then choosing a ship for European waters is a whole different kettle of fish!

On a European cruise, you will find that spending time aboard ship is not one of the main activities, its the shore excursions that count. This is totally different from a Caribbean cruise experience. For example, if you have been on the atypical Caribbean cruise you will remember that you will have spent far more days at sea, so therefore the crux of you enjoyment aboard ship is what facilities and entertainments it has to offer. This differs somewhat to the European Cruise where passengers can expect to spend much less time at sea and more time travelling and touring the ports of call.

This, of course means that the criteria for picking the ideal European cruise, in my opinion should be as follows; The Itinerary, Your stay in Port and finally the expected Dress Code.

When it comes to ships, try and compare the length of time that each will be docked at port, especially if you are visiting a destinations that’s got lots too see and do, for example Venice in Italy. That way you will make the most of the time you have ashore.

Check the dress code of the ships you are looking at too, make sure that you don’t end up packing loads of formal wear and suites when the expected attire is casual, equally the opposite is true, if there lots of evening functions you will need to have enough suitable outfits for the entire cruise.

Another good tip is to not bother with getting a cabin with a sea view, since most of your travelling is overnight and you spend each day in port, there’s not much point really. Much better to save some money and get and internal cabin leaving more money to spend on the critical shore excursions and day tours. After all there not alot of point having a room with a view that you are not spending a great deal of time in.

If you are looking for casual dining options then Norwegian cruise line, Princess and Oceania are you best bets, this is a great option if you intend to spend all your time out and about each day, after all who wants to get dressed up every night when your all worn out for having some much fun exploring those European destinations!

The Canary Islands are to be found off of the coasts and Spain and Africa and are extremity popular tourist destinations for European cruises. The Canary Islands are essentially made up of three Islands, each one providing interesting day trips and shore excursions allowing you to sample life in the Mediterranean.

The Canary Islands as a Cruise Destination

The Canary Islands that can be visited by cruise ship are namely La Palma, Gran Canarias and the one most people are familiar with from other European holidays, Tenerife. Each of the Islands are readily accessible by cruise liner and finding a cruise package that includes the Canary Islands as a European cruise destination is quite easy to do, there are many opportunities and packages available from most good tour operators.

In the canary island archipelago, generally the islands of Gomera, El Hierro, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote do not have cruise destinations in most cruise line itineraries – which is unfortunate. Many of cruise lines have destinations in the Canary Islands, however, that visit the three main Islands including P&O Cruises. The cruise lines are always updating the ports and areas that their ships visit so it worth rechecking which ships will call in what ports if you are thinking of a Western Mediterranean cruise to the Canaries this year.

The Canary Islands themselves offer many great sights to visit including plenty of volcanic scenery due to the islands origins as volcanic islands. With many of the towns having Spanish and Moorish influences the architecture and buildings are well worth making a part of any shore excursion you might plan if you find these things interesting. In particular, cruise ships will stop at Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife (which incidentally is the largest of the Canary Islands). Also make sure you visit La Palma, known as La Isla Bonita which translated from Spanish means “the pretty island”, which as it turns out, it is very much so with lavish and outstanding natural landscapes.

Having a stress free cruise departure

Once the cruise is chosen and all the bookings are in place, you are now left with the anticipation of joining your ship and having a fantastic European cruise.

By now you will know the itinerary of your cruise, but don’t forget some of the important planning that you need to do before you get to your ship to save you any anxiety.

Departing on time
A crucial part of enjoying your cruise is to make sure you actually get to the ship on time; ideally you will be there in plenty of time but if you live a fair distance from the departure ports then you will need to do some planning.

Can you Travel down in one day?
If the cruise ship is located quite close that you can travel by car, taxi or public transport then this is a good choice, just make sure that you arrive by the time specified on your boarding documents provided by the travel operator or cruise line.

Leaving the day before
You might like to leave the day before your European cruise departs and book some accommodation for an overnight stay in a hotel, this will mean that you can join your ship with plenty of time to spare and not be late or in a rush. It may seem like a bit of an extra hassle but there is no point rushing and it also allows for any unforeseen occurrences to be taken into consideration. On the day of the cruise you can book a taxi on the day from the hotel; however it would be recommended that you pre-book in advance so as to make sure you are not late for the cruise and reduce the possibility of any stressful moments.

The location is some ways away
In this scenario you may need to take an air flight, this will most likely not be included in the cruise package and you will need to organise this yourself. You will probably need overnight accommodation in this arrangement too so make sure you do your bookings well in advance, this is probably not one of the instances you want to book a late flight to get a cheaper deal in case you can’t get a flight at all!

Time zones
This may seem unimportant but make sure you know which time zone your ship is leaving from especially if you are travelling across State or perhaps from Canada for your European cruise.

Hopefully some of these tips will help you enjoy a pleasant a stress less Cruise – all down to some easy planning tactics.

How to plan a European Cruise

When you begin planning for a cruise, there are several things that you will probably want to consider. These are usually, where will your cruise destination be going to, how long you want to be away for and having the best time possible while you are cruising.

You can typically take 1, 2 or 3 week cruises (or longer if you want) and the destination that you choose may be linked to this, for example if you want to venture to the Caribbean only 1 week will probably not be long enough. Choosing a European destination can be quite a popular choice and I am going to look into some of the considerations that you should take on board if you opt for this route.

When you know the rough area you want to cruise in, you need to begin searching out some of the varying cruise packages that are available for your chosen destination. Again you need to make a variety of decisions as you hone in on the perfect cruise. Each package will have a varying length of stay, and this will also affect the size of ship you might choose. You need to decide if you want to use a large liner or perhaps a smaller vessel. All of these details need to be considered and I would suggest that you make a list of all the features that you are looking for in your cruise choice.

Once you have figured out all the criteria of you cruise vacation, you need to decide on a budget that you want to use. After you’ve been looking at the criteria for a while you will have gotten a feel for the kinds of cost involved so you just need to apply all your have researched and make a choice.

So the cruise is booked and now you should probably make another list of the things that you need to do before departure. This is not just limited to working out what clothes you will be taking, whether you need warm clothes for a Northern European Cruise or sun tan lotion for you Mediterranean cruise. Importantly do not forget your passport, which you will definitely need – make sure its still in date and valid. Also you may need visas, although yoru Cruise line will help you sort these out if they are required for the trip make a note so you have applied in time. Another consideration is making sure you have local currency, remember Euros are used in many European countries, but some countries in Europe have their own local currencies that you might also like to get.

Whatever happens, make sure you do plenty of research and make list of all the things that you think you will need, that way you will minimize any problems you might encounter and have a wonderful European Cruise that you will never forget.
